unZined Reviews - Louie Louie - Carry the Man

Louie Louie, a four piece band with a twist. The twist is that whilst Paul Limer and Tom Pallett call Oldham, Manchester home, front woman Rita Faria and her brother Pedro Faria hail from Lisbon, Portugal. With their mix of different music styles they promise a unique and creative sound to their music. Performing with their current line up since September 2014, they have used this time to hone in their act, perfect and find their sound.

After hearing about them on fellow Little Indie Night resident, Iain Tinsley's unsigned radio show on Halton Community Radio and being intrigued about them and their origins, unZined reached out to find out more and review their latest release which they were more then happy for us to. Check it out below:

Eager to listen to Louie Louie's latest release Carry the Man I eagerly press play and instantly I am welcomed by a military style beat on the snare followed shortly after by a sultry bass riff, which lends the song a mellow blues rock vibe. Rita's echo-driven vocals make an appearance full of a, yet again, sultry blues rock style which suits the song well. A vague similarity is evident to The Dead Weather, but Rita's vocals, after hearing them, to me are more retro, as in the 30's-female-club-singer kind of retro, made famous by the likes of Lana Del Rey etc. This mix is pleasant to listen to and is a unique take on this genre which will serve them well when getting notice and fans.

As the song reaches its quarter/mid point mark a soft sounding organ and a clean sounding guitar riff makes an appearance giving the some more depth and energy. The drums are played well to accompany the riff and organs timing. All of these build up to a climax and with the inclusion of a harmony to the well sung and powerful vocals, which sounds amazing.

As the song reaches the finale, it softens the tempo with a sound similar to the intro. The drums, guitar and bass riff play us out of the song with a nice beat and fades out instead of there being a sudden end, which would have, in my opinion, detracted from the feel of the song.

The overall feel of the song was a well performed blues rock ballad, which was balanced, unique and brilliant. The tempo changes through the song along with the light and shade in vocals and instruments serve in delivering a varied and diverse song. Offering this song a their EP was a smart move as its a great song showcasing their ability,  talent and skill.  The song is one they should be very proud of.
