unZined Introduces - Bandito Rey

Introducing.....

Davy Murphy - Guitar/keys/FX
Jams Ward - Drums
Dave Copley - Bass

Ioan Llewelyn - Vocals
Collectively, they are known as Bandito Rey, a self described experimental, electronic and alternative band from the North West, England. They state on their website they have a wide range in style and to showcase this, they have release two previous songs "Laag" and "Come on Baby". Their influences include Aphex Twin, Radiohead, Morrisey and Massive Attack.
"Bandito Rey name was put together by Murphy speaking to his partner (Corinne) about band names. Murphy's  who's own amp is called a Peavy 112 Bandit and their former band's singer was in a band called the "The Bandits". Bandito is Spanish for bandit and Rey means king also in Spanish.
Bandito Rey recently has introduced a professional looking website to make it easier for their audience to keep updated and have released a single, "Juicy Fruit".

Their third music release interestingly enough called "Juicy Fruit" starts off with a chewy simple bass line and accompanying synth and then ups the tempo with some fast drums and a clever simple guitar riff. Shortly, after a quick intro the vocals step up to the mark with meaty sounding guitars and bass. Added to by synth in the background this song quickly and evidently becomes a well produced and played song.  Towards the end it simplifies the intensity like the intro before building it up again with vocals and guitar and a sudden finish. All in all, its a very professional and enjoyable song. Having already produced two strong releases previously, they have surpassed themselves with a great release and I will watch avidly for further singles, or hopefully an album in the future.

unZined Reviews - Some Kind of Illness (self-titled)

Some Kind of Illness in their own words...
"We are Some Kind Of Illness a three piece alternative indie band formed in Manchester, England. We combine alternative indie songwriting with an atmospheric, reverberant backbone to create a sound described as "calming" and "beautiful" :)"

Paul Hinks (vocals/guitar) from the band approached me to review their latest self-titled album and I jumped at the chance, as at first glance their music description  is something unique and something I'd enjoy listening to and reviewing. Check it out below.

unZined - The Six Thirties - From the Get Go

We at unZined previously featured this up and coming band on our blog in December 2014. The Six Thirties at the time they didn't have much recorded material, but from the rehearsal footage, it got me excited for what they could produce if given the change.

It seems they did have the chance and have released a well produced, upbeat, power house of a song called From the Get Go.

The song starts off with a nice riff which sets the scene. You can imagine being in the crowd watching as they play this riff, which as you listen builds up the atmosphere. In come the bass and drums, not a lot, but enough to build it up. There's a definite Smiths influence there in the riff I think. As the song breaks into the verse it cranks up the tempo and brings in the vocals. It's a well written song; one you'd expect to be written by a well known American rock band along the lines of Saving Abel or something. The chorus comes in and its got catchy unique memorable lyrics. The only criticism I have however, is that with the song being an upbeat rock number, the vocals fall short of being punchy and loud. In any future release, backing vocals could make a big difference, which could enhance the song loads.

Overall, its a great release, one that gives you a taste of what the band can do and where they are headed musically. I enjoyed it and look forward to future releases and possibly seeing them live at one of their future gigs. Check it out below:

unZined Reviews - The Spitting Pips - You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet

Psychedelic indie rockers, The Spitting Pips, hailing from sunny Rhyl are no strangers to Little Indie Night. They've previously been featured, which you can check out here and have played at two of our events in the past, including Little Indie Fest, which was an overall success partly thanks to their set.

The Spitting Pips seem to be tackling further afield with their gigs, including other festivals and gigs around the North West. Since we last caught up with them they seem to have picked up a further musician to their band named Dave Podbury. To further increase their fan base they've released a six strong EP release titled You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet, which can be pre-ordered at the bottom of this post. We've been invited to preview their upcoming release and give our review. Here we go.

unZined Introduces - The Haze

The Haze are a four-piece band from Liverpool who dub themselves as being "English Contemporary Blues/Rock/Pop. The members of the band are;

Kevin Walsh Jnr on Vocals & Rhythm Guitar

Shea McChrystal on Bass & Backing Vocals

Sean Walshy on Lead Guitar &Backing Vocals

Alan Phillips on Percussion & Backing Vocals

"Kevin Walsh Jnr: The band first got together in a youth centre when I was 17, naturally I asked my brother Sean to join me and asked if he knew of any drummers, as apparently they are the hardest member to find for a band. It just so happened his best mate, Alan, was a drummer and we took it from there really. Eventually, we was introduced to Shea through a friend and then everything fell into place. Thats our line up."

Their influences are as diverse as you get ranging from Crowded house, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, The Black Keys, Oasis and loads more.

The band seem to be in recent months ramping up their efforts when it comes to putting it across they are a devoted band who mean business. Already they have started to play further afield, get professional photos taken and are making music videos to go with their music, which will give them a bigger audience through Youtube. I had the pleasure to see them live not so long back when they supported The Jackobins and from that set it could be seen they have potential and can go far with efforts such as these.

Am I the Only One is my pick from the songs available by The Haze. From the word Go the song packs a punch with its great heavy driven guitar and well spaced lead. The backing vocal, adds a retro feel to the song and give the song an extra dimension. Overall, its a well produced song which showcases their talent and energy, which will no doubt start to get them noticed should the right people hear it.
