unZined - Wasteland Paradise

School formed bands are becoming a more frequent occurrence in recent years. With the encouragement from music lessons and it's teachers, hope, talent and encouragement is given to many, which leads them to form music bands or go solo. Wasteland Paradise from Runcorn formed this way and have been gigging ever since.

With influences from classic indie through to modern day indie, classic rock and more affecting their music style and performance, Wasteland Paradise's future looks promising. They incorporate original songs with many covers from their favorite bands in their sets, including  Kings of Leon, Stereophonics, The Who and many more. With a wide range in music covers they are bound to please any crowd they perform for.

They recently sat down and pondered over an interview I sent to them asking questions which any potential fan needs to know and to introduce themselves to the masses. They went a step further and send us a video of their responses. Big thanks to Wasteland Paradise! With always going the extra mile they are bound to be a step ahead of the rest.
Check out their interview below:

Spike Island - The Stone Roses - 25 years to the day ( well near enough )

Were you at Spike Island ? That Sunset Sunday on the Mersey estuary 25 years ago this May? I was ... and along with 26,999 others can't remember too much about it. Millions of people have attended the Stone Roses reunion gigs over the last few years and god only knows how many people would want to descend upon little ole Spike Island itself if a "real reunion" was announced.

This is strictly limited to 500 people and I for one cannot wait to kick back come sunset with 'She bangs the drums' played by who are, The Stone Roses number one tribute band.

( insert here the first chords of I wanna be adored )

As you can imagine tickets have already started disappearing. See you there xxx

unZined Reviews - The Spitting Pips - Acid Soul

The debut release from North West band The Spitting Pips, "Acid Soul", comprises of two tracks, Burn it Out and Excuse me. Both tracks on first hearing them come across well produced and recorded, showing their capability as a professional indie rock band with their raw rock sound, excellent harmonies and up tempo drums

Their track Burn it Out is upbeat from the word go and is bound to be a crowd favorite with strong powerful guitar, vocals with echo effect and a harmony from backing vocals which compliments the lead greatly. As it kicks into the chorus the backing vocals give the song some kick and the guitar riff is placed well in the song and isn't over excessive.

Onto Excuse Me, which in my opinion is the better of the two, features a strong bass sound and lead guitar riff melody, which sounds excellent. They favour again the echo effect to the vocals again, which could be a signature sound for the band, but which will no doubt set them apart from other bands. There's an obvious wink and tip of the hat to the indie rock from the 90's, namely Oasis and The Charlatans, but it is just a sly wink, overall the song is theirs with their own character and attitude. The chorus, still playing around in my head, is very catchy and once you've heard it, most will find themselves singing it to themselves for a while after. Towards the end the mellow guitar compliments the vocals and bass, which completes an overall great track.

Overall, two outstanding tracks which make Acid Soul a great first release. It doesn't seem like they've prematurely released tracks before they got their act together, instead it seems like they've spent time molding their sound and fine tuning it before releasing a well rounded first EP.  It will be interesting to see where the band go from here, developing their sound as they go along, because as it stands, they've hit the ground running and have the songs they need to please the masses, full of attitude and character.

unZined - The Spitting Pips

There's a band making waves at the moment, forging their way and making their name known to the public all across the North West. The Spitting Pips are going from strength to strength and the band doesn't show any signs of stopping. Supporting Oasis UK, the nations number one tribute act for Oasis at the Tivoli on the 6th February, is a major step in the right direction, giving them the promotion they need to be well known throughout the north west.

With a collection of well rounded and rocking tunes performed in their own style, they are sure to accomplish their goals when it comes to spreading their fan base. Having taken a big influence by late 80s/early 90s indie and also incorporated their own, The Spitting Pips bring to the audience a unique sound, but familiar enough for any long standing and new fan of old school indie rock. You can check out my review of their latest EP "Acid Rock" here.

unZined - Cloudburst

Cloudburst state to be influenced by indie rock from the 90's which is in a way coming back into the fore lately and will without doubt set them apart from the rest.

On listening to the tracks they have released, there is definitely a tip of the hat to the likes of Noel Gallagher style guitar and the general style they have. While they are not copying the Oasis method, they are using it to mold their own. Their own sound has a great lead guitar sound with a great tempo on the drums and vocals which inspire.

Still they have a long way ahead of them and are just in their beginning stages of the band, but with just a quick start and eagerness to succeed its hard to not see a bright future for the band.

To find out more about Cloudburst and what drives them, I set Eric Kostadinov, their singer, guitarist and song writer some questions, which you can read below.

unZined - Junior Dayvis

Junior Dayvis is a well renouned musician in the local music scene, showing up at open mic nights and even hosting his own. Hes's familiar face which is at the forefront of local music in Halton and is probably the reason some pick up a guitar and sing themselves.

Whilst his music career started out as a duo (more information from the man himself below) it can be said he is more than comfortable as a solo artist, versatile in someways to incorporate other singers and musicians when he performs at open mic nights.

Such local talent needs to be recognised. To find out more I posed some questions to him to get more information on what he is all about. Check out his interview below..
